The Shan people are a forgotten, suppressed and un-reached people group from Myanmar/Burma.
The Shan people lives in South East Asia spanning the golden triangle of Burma, Thailand, South West China, and Laos.
It has been a civil war going on for over fifty years inside Burma, and the result of the war are that human rights, economical justice and religious freedom has been violated. These are the things the Shans has suffered trough for some decades now, that forces them to seek refuge into Thailand and other neighboring countries.
The situation for the Shan people in Thailand are very difficult, most of them don’t have a refugee status, and the only way for them to survive is to find hard labor work and low paid jobs.
To be Shan is to be Buddhist: the saying goes. Since the first missionaries arrived in 1861, the Shan have resisted the gospel. Even today, less than 0.04% are believers among a population of over 6 million. They are also very animistic and are often bound in fear and superstition.
